   WHY THIS FILE EXISTS

   Every screen used to open with three tags pointing at Google — two
   preconnects and a css2 stylesheet — and that is a dependency an
   intranet deployment cannot honour. Behind a firewall the request does
   not fail fast, it hangs and then fails, and the whole build falls
   back to Arial Narrow and whatever the machine calls monospace. The
   condensed, letter-spaced look of the bars and the rails is the first
   thing to go.

   So the faces live here. Same families, same weights, same subsets the
   css2 links asked for, downloaded once and checked in. Nothing on any
   screen reaches off this host for a font.

   WHAT IS AND IS NOT HERE

   latin and latin-ext only. The Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese cuts
   Google offers were never drawn by any screen in this build.

   No italics, and that is deliberate rather than an omission: the old
   links never asked for an italic face either, so every
   `font-style:italic` in these sheets — the empty-tile notes, the fault
   list, the printed forms — has always been a browser-synthesised
   oblique. Shipping real italics would change how those read.

   WHAT IS DRAWN FROM WHAT

   One file per distinct set of bytes, which is why the file names do
   not line up one-to-one with the rules below. IBM Plex Sans and Source
   Serif 4 are variable fonts: Google serves the same file under a url
   per weight, so here their weights share a single `*-var-*` file and
   the rules instance it. The rest are static cuts, one file each.

   HOW IT IS REACHED

   The url()s are relative to this file, so a page links it at whatever
   depth it sits: `./styles/fonts.css` from public/, `../styles/fonts.css`
   from public/Design/, and `/styles/fonts.css` from the app/ routes,
   where app/layout.tsx carries it once for every screen under it.

   Barlow, IBM Plex and Source Serif 4 are all SIL OFL 1.1, which
   permits redistribution — this file and public/assets/fonts included.
